Friendship Company

I had dinner with some friends last night and a friend mentioned that, 'Hey, we're your family in Hong Kong!" On the way home, I started pondering. Yes, I am very truly blessed in many, many ways in terms with friendship. God has provided me with friends in every stage of my life. Many of them have turned into a part of my family. It makes it even harder at times when it's time to say goodbye to some of my friends when they move away or when I move away. But deep down, I know, these are the friends that will be friends for life. Then, Sandi Patty started ringing in my head. Years ago when I was at uni, the church that Stan was attending in Brisbane staged a musical before I left. It was Friendship Company by Sandi Patty. It was during that time that certain friendships were sealed and cemented. That was when I really got to know Amy. It's strange how life goes on and we hardly saw each other and when we meet up, we just pick up where we left off. It was also throug...

When Friends Become Family

As I've mentioned in my last blog, a friend in need called me for help. It got me thinking about friends. Over the years, I've spent and am still spending time away from Singapore and my family. And it's especially that when I'm away from family that friends become family to me. I met Eve when I was doing my undergraduate studies in Gold Coast, Australia. I spent a lot of time with her. We used to go out all the time. Dinners, clubbing and just hanging out. When I lost contact with her, it did break my heart. I met Stanley when I was like 6 in Sunday School. It was all in God's plan that he went to Brisbane to do his undergraduate studies as well. During the time that we were in Australia we spent a lot of time together and he was someone that I relied on a lot. I'm so happy and excited that he's getting married in less than 2 months' time! Lina is my cousin and a best friend to me as well. We were in Australia studying around the same time. She was in M...

My Cousins

I was watching Channelnewsasia last night. They had a program about an extended family that lives together. While watching that, I was reminded of my own extended family and my cousins. Just a couple of days ago, Sharon, my cousin in States, restarted the Sim Cousins email circle. She started it when her dad was sick and now it's restarted. I remembered when we were kids living in Pandan Gardens, Uncle Albert's family (Sharon's family) was just living next block. I'd go over all the time to play with Sharon and Morgan. Morgan was like my partner in crime. I love him to the bits! We used to sit in a corner and share our woes...yes, we had our woes at that time! And Xiao Di (Calvin) was like my little brother that I never had. His birthday is a day after mine. School holidays and weekends were a blast! Cousins gathered in Uncle Albert's place and we'll go crazy playing. During June holidays, Uncle Larry would fly back with his family and Eelynn and Jolynn will joi...
